The New Pet
Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Meet my new pet! He is a baby skunk! I'm so in love with him already. My friend Chryssy found him abandoned on the side of the road. His eyes weren't even open then. She took care of him for a week, but between her driving to L.A. (about 80 miles from here) every day for school she didn't think she could properly care for him, so she gave this little fella to me. He has grown so much already, and he eats like a beast. Can anyone think of a name for him?

  • Aww!! He's so adorable! Skunks actually make very good pets (you can even get them fixed so they can't spray that terrible smell!) but be careful. They are very mischievous! I've always sort of wanted a skunk as a pet, but I'm too lazy. The only kind of pet I can keep is a cat. ;-D

  • EXTREME CUTENESS! I've also heard that skunks can make good pets as long as you have their stink glands removed. This reminds me of a funny story. One day my husband looked out the window and thought he saw our cat playing with a new black and white cat. Then he did a double-take because, as I'm sure you've guessed, the "new cat" was a skunk! (No, our cat didn't get sprayed, but we took him inside for a while after the skunk scampered away.)

  • Wow - pet envy! All I've got is a baby seagull outside my window :)

Is it a he or a she? If it's a he, then he should be called Pepe, obviously! If it's a she, how about Siouxsie or Toyah? Gotta have a punk name to go with that awesome 'do :)

  • You are brave to care for a skunk. How does one keep them from spraying though? I think they are so cute!!!!!!
Not sure what to name him/her. I usually am good at picking out names randomly too. I'm at a blank here.

  • Wow, a pet skunk! Who knew?! And I've been enlightened by reading through your comments. I didn't know their stink glands could be removed.
